Chosen to Host National Softball Tournament
ASA
12&U Fast Pitch Northern Territory Nationals in 2009
Bowling
Green, Ky. -- The Amateur Softball Association selected
the host sites for its 2009 tournaments at the ASA National Council
meeting in Louisville recently. Bowling Green was chosen to host
the 12 and Under Class B Fast Pitch Northern Territory Nationals
July 29- August 2, 2009.
The tournament will bring
between 30 and 50 teams, a majority of which will be from out of
state, for four days of games played at either Western Kentucky
University’s Intramural Fields or Buchanon Park. “Our
central location and past successes in hosting sporting events were
major factors in the ASA Council’s decision to bring this
event to Bowling Green,” Junior Olympics Slow and Fast Pitch
Commissioner for Kentucky Brenda Petty said.
Petty, also the Supervisor
of Buchanon Park, and Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors
Bureau Sports Director Amy Cardwell attended the ASA Council Meeting
to present the bid. “Bowling Green has many of the best facilities
in the country,” Cardwell said. “The ease of travel
between fields is also important due to the higher number of fans
traveling with a youth sporting event.”
With the addition of
the Northern Territory Nationals, there will be eighteen softball
events taking place in Bowling Green in 2009. The Amateur Softball
Association is the National Governing Body of softball in the U.S.
ASA conducts over 90 Championships annually in three categories
of competition; slow, fast and modified pitch. This particular tournament
was in Salina, KS this past July, will be in Springfield, MO in
2008, and has previously not been held in Kentucky.
