Bowling Green to host Bluegrass
State Games Softball

Bowling Green, Ky. — Bluegrass State Games softball participants will have the opportunity to play their respective tournaments in Bowling Green this summer.  This year’s competition will be spread over three weekends.

The Church Division will be held June 8-10, the Men’s and Women’s Divisions will be held June 15-17 and the Youth and Co-ed Divisions will be held June 29- July 1.

Tournament Director Brenda Petty said the tournament will be played at Buchanan Park, but venues including Western Kentucky University and Lampkin Park may be utilized depending on the number of participating teams.

“This is great tournament, and we have the facilities to host it,” Petty said.  “We just thought Bowling Green should have a shot at it.  Plus, the number of people a tournament of this size brings is beneficial to area hotels, restaurants and stores.”

A press conference will be held at 1 p.m. EST Wednesday, March 28 in Rupp Arena to announce Bowling Green as the softball host.

In August 1985 Kentucky launched the largest amateur sporting event in the Commonwealth’s history: The Bluegrass State Games.  The games represent a series  of athletic competitions in the Olympic tradition for Kentuckians of all ages and athletic skill levels.  The Bluegrass State Games has an annual participation of more than 14,000 athletes.

The Bluegrass State Games is a non-profit program sponsored privately to promote amateur athletics across the Commonwealth. It is designed to provide Kentuckians of all ages and skill levels a wholesome avenue for positive development through sports and physical activity, to promote and develop amateur athletics and to provide the amateur athlete an opportunity to showcase their talent and receive statewide recognition.

Bluegrass State Games is a member of the National Congress of State Games, which is a member of the United States Olympic Committee.
