SPORTS DIRECTOR EARNS SEAT ON SIGNATURE EVENTS COMMITTEE

Bowling Green, Ky. – Filling a man’s shoes can sometimes be a difficult task for a woman, but Amy Cardwell has big feet. Just over a year ago Cardwell joined the Bowling Green Area Convention and Visitors Bureau as Sports Sales Director—a position previously held by Steve Small.

Cardwell’s hard work and dedication to the job haven’t gone unnoticed as she was recently named to the Signature Events Committee commissioned by the Kentucky Sports Authority. The KSA is an agency of the Commerce Cabinet that works to create and promote both amateur and professional sporting events throughout the Commonwealth. The Signature Events Committee will be responsible for creating a brand new sporting event Kentuckians can call their own.

“The Signature Events Committee will evaluate what makes sense for the Commonwealth,” said Terry Hasseltine, KSA Deputy Executive Director. “We don’t want to be riding off the shoulders of another event. We plan to create something Kentuckians can really wrap their arms around.”
Cardwell has been a member of Team Kentucky for a year. Hasseltine said her active role and enthusiasm in that organization earned her the nomination.

“When we started discussing the position everyone in my office said, ‘Amy from Bowling Green,’” noted Hasseltine. “She’s a great leader and just a natural choice for the position. She brings an energy to the table about how sports can be done, not just for Bowling Green but for the entire Commonwealth,” he said.

Other Signature Events Committee members include Alvis Johnson, Committee Chair; Derrick Ramsey, Deputy Secretary of Commerce; Louis Stout, former commissioner of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association; and Jennifer Parks, Representing Sec. Wilcher.

“This is such an honor and I really appreciate it,” Cardwell said. “”I’m excited about this new innovative concept. I’m always up for original ideas.”

Cardwell, a former softball player of 25 years and all-around sports enthusiast, has had a key role in the execution of major state sporting events in Bowling Green including the Houchens KHSAA Sweet 16 Girls Basketball Tournament and the Anthem Kentucky/Indiana All-Star Basketball Classic. She is also a member of the Bowling Green Lions Club, the Kentucky Tourism Council and a board member of the Bowling Green Kiwanis.
