This is THE weekend for the ULTIMATE girls’ getaway! If you're in the mood for shopping, sipping, tasting and relaxing before the holidays take over, here is a sample itinerary for a fun-filled girls’ trip.
Check-in, drop the bags, and head over to Be Happy Yoga & Salt Cave for a yoga class or a unique session in the Himalayan Salt Cave. Best to book in advance, these and other wellness treatments offered at Be Happy are catching on in popularity and are the perfect start to a relaxing weekend.
If sessions are booked, don't worry, you can just get a head start on shopping because GypsyMoon Marketplace (more below) is open until 8pm Friday and weekend passes are a great deal! Other options include Pint Night at Blue Holler Brew or enjoying live music at Mellow Mushroom, 6.4.3 Sports Bar, Lost River Pizza, Spillway Bar & Grill, or The A-Frame.
If you rise early enough Saturday, stop at Wild Eggs for indulgent dishes or Boyce General Store for a true southern breakfast – including freshly baked cinnamon rolls at both spots. Yum! But don’t worry, Brie, the Pie Queen of Bowling Green and co-owner of Boyce, will be at your next destination with her oh-so-popular treats in case you’re running late!
Then, grab your girlfriends and head to the GypsyMoon Marketplace at Highland Stables. This bi-annual barn sale is the perfect place to find handmade creations, vintage treasures, original art, jewelry, Christmas gifts, and more! There are even live performances, free workshops, and giveaways, plus it’s a simply charming environment for just catching up.
Is it even a girl’s weekend without wine? Stop by any of Bowling Green’s wineries on Saturday afternoon for tastings of local wines overlooking the beautiful vineyards, or head to the Winter Wine Festival at the Historic RailPark & Train Museum this Saturday. Just don’t miss sampling the Sweet Tea Wine from Traveler’s Cellar if you are so inclined!
Then, cruise downtown to the square where you will find more great local shops! Check out Barbara Stewart Interiors for the perfect gift for your friend who loves home décor, or Candle Makers for a custom-made candle. If you need to spice up your wardrobe, stop by Steel Mill for the latest trends.
Checking off your Christmas shopping list sure can work up an appetite, so head to any of our delicious local restaurants to refuel. One option is specialty cocktails paired with delicious tastings at the Derby Piano & Dessert Bar in historic downtown followed by dinner a block away at Hickory & Oak or 440 Main.
And what better way to end your night than riding in a horse-drawn carriage? Rockn B offers historic horse–drawn carriage tours starting at the square downtown. Or take in a show at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center with Irving Berlin’s White Christmas the Musical this Saturday evening.
Enjoy a laidback Sunday morning with brunch and mimosas from The Bistro or White Squirrel Brewery. For even more local shopping open on Sunday, head to Nat’s Outdoor Sports, which has been a staple in the Bowling Green scene since 1971 featuring all the outdoor apparel brands you love!
Still time to explore? If you’re more interested in making your own gifts this year, Lost River Cave is hosting a Natural Fabric Dying workshop this Sunday afternoon. Learn what dyes you have in your own backyard, and dye your own silk!
Of course, this itinerary can be modified for almost any weekend of the year with all the happenings around town, so message your girlfriends now and make a plan to VisitBGKY soon!
