While exploring downtown Bowling Green, it is hard to miss the brightly painted building along Chestnut Street that features a cityscape mural and blue facade. We are big fans of the Phoenix Theatre and the entities that perform there, including the recent recipient of a Kentucky Arts Partnership competitive grant, the Public Theatre of Kentucky.
Kentucky Arts Partnership grants provide operational support to nonprofit arts and cultural organizations to ensure year-round arts activities and opportunities are available to Kentuckians.
State Sen. Mike Wilson presented the organization with a ceremonial check for $4,365 on Friday after the grant was awarded by the Kentucky Arts Council in July 2010. According to the KY Arts Council press release, Sen. Wilson had this to say:
“Public Theatre of Kentucky is a star among the many cultural venues available in the Bowling Green area. It not only serves as Bowling Green’s only professional theatre, but through The Sunburst Youth Theatre it offers many children the opportunity to learn the skill of acting as well as theatre arts. My family has enjoyed our involvement in PTK for many years. It is essential to making this community an arts destination.”
Also, Rep. Jody Richards commented, “Phoenix Theatre is a welcoming place to see a play or hear live music. The blue building is iconic in Bowling Green, and the reputation of Public Theatre of Kentucky is competitive among any community theater throughout the nation.”
We couldn’t agree more! Check our calendar of events for upcoming performing arts opportunities and support the fantastic talent that is right here in Southern Kentucky!
