Who are classical music and Ghostbusters fans alike going to call this October? Orchestra Kentucky, as they present Ghostbusters in Concert — a screening of the 1984 blockbuster classic while the orchestra performs Elmer Bernstein's Grammy-nominated score featuring Ray Parker, Jr.'s #1 hit "Ghostbusters" — on Friday, October 26th at 7:30 PM at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC), sponsored by Robin & David Ciochetty. Orchestra Kentucky will be the first orchestra in the world to present the soft launch of this new, live concert hall experience.
"We are very excited to be kicking off these Ghostbusters concerts," said Scott Watkins, Executive Director at Orchestra Kentucky of Bowling Green. "It's such a great orchestral score and will be a fun, fresh presentation of the film."
On Ghostbusters Day earlier this summer, Dan Aykroyd announced the upcoming Ghostbusters in Concert performances with a special video message to fans. The production will be presented in dozens of cities across the globe.
Orchestra Kentucky's performance marks the first film with live orchestra concert scheduled during the two performance seasons surrounding the film's 35th anniversary on June 8, 2019. Ghostbusters in Concert will be conducted by Peter Bernstein, the film's original orchestrator and son of iconic, Academy Award-winning composer, Elmer Bernstein.
Fans are invited to bring their proton packs and join the original paranormal investigation and elimination team as they capture their first ghost, Slimer. Tickets start at $30. The concert will begin shortly following the Western Kentucky University's Homecoming Parade, in which Orchestra Kentucky will have a Ghostbusters-themed float and Ghostbusters from local fan clubs are expected to participate.
