Barn Quilts
The back roads of Bowling Green and southern Kentucky have long been popular among Corvette, hot rod, and motorcycle enthusiasts because of the region’s stunning natural beauty. Now all visitors to the area have a reason to get out and explore the roads less traveled in Warren County!
This community art project began after the daughter of a passionate local quilter invited her mother on a birthday drive to admire the area’s quilt blocks like they had done in surrounding counties. But after a little research, they discovered there simply weren’t many here, and they certainly weren’t part of a trail.
So in 2011, the Warren County Quilt Trail was established, inviting rural landowners to add a splash of color to barns or other structures while keeping the quilting heritage alive. After the first few 8-by-8-foot quilt squares were painted and hung, more interest followed and now the trail has grown to 16 sites with more being planned.
We invite you to follow the trail in its entirety or simply pick a few of your favorites and enjoy some country cruising. The property owners each selected their pattern and colors, and then volunteers lovingly painted each block by hand. Please use caution when slowing down or stopping near a site. Most are visible from main roads, but please keep in mind that they are on private property.
