Bluegrass Train Experience Departs the Bowling Green Station; Chugs Across Bluegrass
Not to switch tracks, but there is another trail that showcases the best of Kentucky

[BOWLING GREEN, KY] Oct. 22, 2024 – The newest Kentucky multijurisdictional tourism project is full steam ahead. Today the Bluegrass Train Experience launched from the Bowling Green Convention & Visitors Office (Visit BGKY) with collaboration across five total communities and tourism offices, all of which boast a historic train presence. The latest passport program includes Oldham County, Bardstown, Woodford County, McCreary County and Warren County. The experience offers 13 train experiences ranging from a museum on wheels, train rides through the countryside, historic diner trains, and one of the newest interactive Kentucky attractions the Rail Explorers©.

“Some of Kentucky’s rich history comes from the tapestry of the American rail boom,” said Madison Lindsey, Director of Marketing for Visit BGKY and project lead of the Bluegrass Train Experience. “Railcars have transported stories and travelers across the Bluegrass for generations, so we’re anticipating a great outpouring of interest and memories made from train enthusiasts and history buffs on this latest passport program.”

Train attractions in the passport program includes:

  • Historic Railpark and Train Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky
  • Kentucky Railway Museum in Bardstown, Kentucky
  • My Old Kentucky Dinner Train in Bardstown, Kentucky
  • Big South Fork Scenic Railway in McCreary County, Kentucky
  • Historic Peewee Valley Caboose in Oldham County, Kentucky
  • La Grange Railroad Museum & Education Center in Oldham County, Kentucky
  • Main Street La Grange Welcome Center in Oldham County, Kentucky
  • Bluegrass Scenic Railway & Museum in Woodford County, Kentucky
  • Downtown Midway in Woodford County, Kentucky
  • Nostalgia Station Toy & Train Museum in Woodford County, Kentucky
  • Rail Explorers© in Woodford County, Kentucky
  • Ricardo's Restaurant in Woodford County, Kentucky

The Bluegrass Train Experience provides a depot to the soul-stirring beauty of Kentucky, and participation is as easy as punching a ticket aboard. Participants can pick up a Bluegrass Train Experience passport at any participating tourism office or by visiting one of the 13 train attractions. At each attraction, collect a sticker to add to your passport. The more stickers you collect, the more prizes gained. Prizes include branded bandanas, enamel pins, magnets and more.
