Bowling Green, Ky.—November 14, 2013—The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America, the national governing body of softball in the United States, recognized Bowling Green with the James Farrell Award of Excellence for hosting two of the highest rated 2013 national softball tournaments.

To attain the James Farrell Award of Excellence, a city must host ASA National Championship Tournaments exceptionally well. A host city must receive an overall rating of 95 percent or higher from an ASA Representative, Umpire-In-Chief and the National Office.

The two national softball tournaments Bowling Green hosted that merited this award were the USA/ASA 10U Girls Fastpitch National Championships and the ASA Men’s Class “C” East Fastpitch National Softball Tournament. Held during the summer months, these tournaments impacted the local economy with millions of dollars and generated activities at local businesses, restaurants and attractions.

Amy Cardwell, Sports Sales Director at the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, says the Bowling Green/Warren County community played an important role in hosting the tournaments. “It’s an honor to receive the James Farrell Award of Excellence,” Cardwell said. “Providing these visiting teams with a welcoming atmosphere and great local hospitality wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the staff and facilities at Warren County Parks and Recreation and a number of partners in the Bowling Green community.”
