Bowling Green, Ky. – July 16, 2014 – Bowling Green welcomes teams playing America’s favorite pastime this week. The Kentucky Little League State Championships will be held at Ephram White Park, with tournament play beginning Saturday and continuing daily through the championship game Wednesday.
John Roll, the Bowling Green area district administrator for Kentucky State Little League and a long-time supporter of the game, said the community welcomes the championship teams with hospitality. The last time the city hosted the tournament was 2007.
“The game is all about the kids,” Roll said. “I’ve been involved with Little League for over 64 years and if the kids are happy, then I’m happy. They’re why we’re here.”
The game’s popularity has skyrocketed over the years and more kids play Little League than any other type of youth baseball, Roll said.
Amy Cardwell, Sports Sales Director at the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, said hosting championships like these bring a positive economic impact to the city.
“Every visiting team brings the players, their families and fans,” Cardwell said. “Whenever these visitors have downtime between tournament play, they’re eating at our restaurants, shopping at our businesses and exploring our attractions.”
This weekend 24 teams are set to participate in the Kentucky Little League State Championships. For more information about the tournament and a complete schedule of events, please visit www.eteamz.com/kystatelittleleague or call John Roll at 270-543-5432.
