BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Nov. 15, 2023) – The Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (Visit BGKY) proved last night the bureau is not just green but bronze, silver and gold. Visit BGKY earned one gold, eight silver and 10 bronze awards for projects related to tourism from the Kentucky Travel Industry Association, which represents 900 members across the commonwealth.
Most notably, Visit BGKY’s executive director Sherry Murphy received the prestigious Mangeot-Oaken Distinguished Service Award - the highest honor recognized in the tourism industry.
“Sherry exemplifies professionalism, integrity and leadership in the tourism industry. Her passion for tourism is evident daily as head of our CVB in the fastest growing county in Kentucky,” said Michelle Gorman, Visit BGKY Board Chairwoman. “We are so very fortunate to work and learn from her each day.”
The Mangeot-Oaken Distinguished Service Award is akin to a lifetime achievement award in the travel industry. Murphy began her role as the Visit BGKY executive director in 2018, bringing more than 19 years of experience from her previous position as executive director of the Elizabethtown Tourism and Convention Bureau, where she began her career at the young age of 26.
