Christmas is a wonderful time to be in Bowling Green, as the community comes to life with holiday cheer. While some of our favorite annual events have been postponed, there are still plenty of ways to social distance, mask up and celebrate the season — even a few from the comfort of your car!

Drive-Thru Adventures

Explore more than two miles of dazzling lights at Twinkle at the Track, the drive-through Christmas display at the NCM Motorsports Park, opened daily beginning Nov. 27 (closed Christmas Day). This is the second year for Twinkle, and there will be plenty of new displays to check out as you cruise the road course. Why not plan to stay a couple of nights and checkout nearby Santa's Lookout, as well, for a 'Christmas in the country' experience. Santa's Lookout is open on select dates in December (daily beginning Dec. 17) and offers drive-through lights, costume characters from classic Christmas movies, and more family activities.

The Bowling Green Landmark Association has made its annual Christmas Tour of Homes social-distancing friendly for 2020. Instead of touring the inside of area homes on one afternoon, this year's event lasts from Dec. 5-13. Participating homes will decorate their exteriors for residents and visitors to cruise past and admire, then vote for favorites. More details will be announced on the Landmark Association's Facebook page for the event.

Downtown Tradition

Fountain Square Park decorated for the holidays

If walking through a Winter Wonderland is more your speed, then come to historic Fountain Square Park some evening — just bring your masks and make sure you have plenty of room to social distance. The park will officially show off its Christmas cheer at Downtown Lights Up on Dec. 4 — which will look a little different this year. Visitors are asked to social distance as they explore local shops and see the lights — Santa will even be making a lap of the park for children to see and wave hello to.

The city of Bowling Green will also host a drive-by open house in conjunction with Downtown Lights Up. It will have two tents set up on College Street, and city staff and elected officials will be passing out goodie bags featuring an ornament, "I love BG" face mask, candy canes, annual report and more.

Meet Santa's Helpers

Warren County's newest Christmas attraction is The Reindeer Farm, located near Woodburn. This family-friendly attraction will allow groups to visit the Reindeer Barn to see Santa's sleigh drivers up-close. There's a playground, crafts and other activities planned, as well. You can even book a private tour for your family.

Additionally, Santa's Lookout has a Live Reindeer display joining the attraction beginning Dec. 11 and will be available each night it is open through Dec. 26. And for an even more personal experience, Lost River Cave's popular live Reindeer Encounter returns Dec. 5-6 with just a few tickets remaining as of this week, plus a waitlist. The Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom provides the perfect backdrop for seasonal, outdoor photos.
