Experience Aviation Heritage Park and The Historic Railpark & Train Museum
Bowling Green is full of perfect experiences for history buffs. From museums that recap our states history to historic homes restored to original splendor, there is a plethora of offerings to excite the mind. Let’s take a look at two can’t miss experiences that are engaging and unforgettable for all ages.
A memorial to all distinguished aviators who have called South Central Kentucky Home, Aviation Heritage Park features restored military aircraft with compelling ties to local aviators as well as their own interesting stories. The outdoor park and indoor museum are free entrance to the public! From a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star to a NASA T-38 Talon, Aviation Heritage Park is a exceptional museum featuring aircraft history.
While Aviation Heritage Park is a great exhibit for all ages, young aspiring pilots may be interested in Simulator Saturdays. Select days throughout the year feature an opportunity to try out the pilot seat of a Redbird flight simulator. Aviation Heritage Park also features various S.T.E.M camps perfect for kids grade 3-6. And be on the lookout for Open Cockpit Day which provides a rare look inside aircrafts at the park.
All aboard! The Historic Railpark and Train Museum is a can’t miss experience for young conductors, train enthusiasts and anyone who loves a great historic tour! Take a guided tour through their restored cars including a Pullman Dining Car, Presidential Office Car, Diesel Locomotive and many more. The museum features one of the region’s largest model railroad displays inside alongside a two-story self-guided museum featuring exhibits that highlight the cultural significance of the railroads.
The Historic Railpark & Train Museum also throws events of Historic Proportions! Notable events throughout the year are the BG Wine Fest, Sip & Putt Mini Golf Scramble and Polar Express Storytime during the holiday season.
