Bowling Green, Ky.—May 13, 2014—The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Board of Control announced today it will not be renewing the contract with Bowling Green and Western Kentucky University to host the Houchens Industries KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 Basketball State Championships after 2015. The tournament will move to Northern Kentucky University for 2016 and 2017.

Bowling Green also bid to host the KHSAA Girls Fastpitch Softball State Championships from 2015 to 2018 at Michael O. Buchanon Park, but Owensboro’s Fisher Park won the contract.

“Bowling Green has a strong relationship with the KHSAA and a solid foundation for hosting events and offering hospitality,” Amy Cardwell, Sports Sales Director at the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, said. “Our city plays an important role in hosting many of its events.”

The city will host both the Russell Athletic KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl Boys State Football championships through 2018 and the Leachman Buick GMC Boys and Girls State Golf Championships through 2020.

The Bowling Green Area CVB is seeking to attract future events that might have previously been rescheduled or moved cities because of the Houchens Industries KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 tournament in March.

“We are confident that other conventions and events are interested in coming to Bowling Green during that time of year and are actively reaching out to these groups for new business,” Vicki Fitch, Executive Director of the Bowling Green Area CVB, said.
