BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - September 1, 2010 — Men’s softball teams from 14 states will be in Bowling Green this weekend competing in the 2010 Amateur Softball Association Men’s Class “C” East Fastpitch National Championship. The 31-team tournament begins Friday at 5 p.m. and continues through Monday at Buchanon Park.

“With lots of families heading outdoors for Labor Day weekend, this tournament comes at a great time for our hotels and restaurants,” said Amy Cardwell, Sports Sales Director of the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We haven’t seen men’s fastpitch in this area for over 30 years, so it’s also a great opportunity for spectators to enjoy some fun competition.”

Participation in this particular ASA tournament has set a record this year. Teams are traveling from as far away as Staten Island, NY, Houston, TX and seven teams alone from Pennsylvania. One local team, Richpond Hardware, plays its first game on Friday night at 9 p.m.

The addition of this tournament expands Bowling Green’s softball repertoire from predominately youth events and will enable the county to bid on more adult tournaments in the coming years.

Daily admission is $5.00 for adults, $2.00 for children 7 – 12, and free for six and under. Weekend passes for the entire tournament, Friday through Monday, are $15.00 for adults and $7 for children.
